Four Hindu Raksha Dal members arrested over alleged student assault, manhandling of women during CJP protest

New Delhi: Four men claimed to be members of the right-wing Hindu Raksha Dal have been arrested. They have been booked for allegedly assaulting the student protesters and manhandling women during the Cockroach Janta Party(CJP) protests on October 10 in Delhi, the police said on Sunday. 

The arrest occurred after the video of the incident went viral on social media, showing men beating up protesters and pushing and hitting women, in the presence of police personnel nearby. 

The accused have been identified as Raman Saini, 50, Vivekanand alias Vivek,32, Kapil Kumar, 27, and Ravinder Singh alias Govind Hindu, 35. As per reports from The Pioneer, a senior police officer stated this.

The viral video was shared by CJP on X on Saturday, alleging that a young female was brutally beaten up by the “BJP-RSS goons. “DEEPLY DISTURBING! BJP-RSS goons beating a young girl in the presence of Delhi Police, with an officer seemingly guiding them to stop the recording,” said the party in its post. 

The police, however, said no official complaint has been received, but they took suo motu cognisance of the incident, which led to the arrest of these four men after tracing them. 

The arrests come amid reports of alleged atrocities against students, political figures and journalists as part of the October 10 protests demanding the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner, Gynesh Kumar, over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
